Hello and welcome to the December IWSG Blog Hop! I am looking forward to visiting many of my IWSG friends and meeting new IWSG bloggers!

December 4 question -
Do you write cliffhangers at the end of your stories?
Are they a turn-off to you as a writer and/or a reader?
I have never written a book series, but if I ever did, I would never end with a cliffhanger. It is such a gimmick to try and sell the next book in the series. I want the story to end with all the mystery and romance questions answered and tied up in a beautiful bow. When characters are written so readers care about them and what happens to them, it will naturally spur readers to learn more about them. They will buy the next book.
I experienced this when I read Nora Roberts' The Inn BoonsBoro Trilogy. Book #
1 is The Next Always. If you like sweet romance, witty moments, and ghost stories (like I do), you would like this series. I cared enough to read all three books in the series.

You're right - if the author has written about compelling characters in a story, readers will naturally want to read the next in the series.
I think there should be some good ending in a story, but in certain genres like fantasy or mystery, a cliffhanger may work too. I agree with you any series must have compelling characters for readers to want to read more.
I don't mind a good cliffhanger and look forward to the next book or series, as long as it comes in a timely manner. Merry Christmas!
I don't like them either. Fortunately, I don't encounter many.
