Valentine's Day, February 14, has passed, but February is the month of love. Let's celebrate all month and beyond!! |
Hello and welcome to the Focused on Story Blog.
I hope you had a delightful Valentine's Day. When we were in the floral business, Valentine's Day was one of the biggest holidays for florists. In 1976, it was our first holiday in the business. What a learning experience with OJT (on-the-job) training! Did we survive??? Check out the reading from my memoir, Arranging a Dream, about that first Valentine's Day holiday. You'll find the answer to that question!

Please welcome back multi-talented author, professor, blogger and reviewer, Jacqui Murray. Read her bio after the articles. You'll be amazed.
Her focus at the moment is on prehistoric fiction with her saga, Man vs. Nature. It’s a series of trilogies set in seminal times of man’s evolution. The first is Dawn of Humanity, about Homo habilis, with one book completed, Born in a Treacherous Time. The second in the trilogy, Against All Odds, will be out 2021. The second trilogy, featuring Homo erectus, is Crossroads with the first two books out, Survival of the Fittest and Quest for Home. The third and final, In the Footsteps of Giants, will be out Winter 2021.
I am delighted to introduce you to her new upcoming release this summer, Laws of Nature.
Thanks so much for revealing your cover today!
Thank you, Janet, for inviting me to share the #CoverReveal for my upcoming book, Laws of Nature.
Good news! I can reveal the cover, fresh from my design folks at Damonza.
Laws of Nature by Jacqui Murray Pre-historic Fiction Book 2 in the Dawn of Humanity Trilogy |
A boy blinded by fire.
A woman raised by wolves.
An avowed enemy offers help.
Set 1.8 million years ago in Africa, Lucy and her band of early humans struggle against the harsh reality of a world ruled by nature, where predators stalk them and a violent new species of man threatens to destroy their world. Only by changing can they prevail.
If you ever wondered how earliest man survived but couldn’t get through the academic discussions, this book is for you. Prepare to see this violent and beautiful world in a way you never imagined.
I sure hope you like it because it's too late for changes!
I might publish Laws of Nature to Amazon as a pre-order soon. An Indie friend did that with a publication date in late summer. Any thoughts on that?
You can find all of my books through my Amazon page. I'm on KU so if you are, they're even free!
Thanks, again, Janet, for hosting #CoverReveal!

Thanks for hosting Jacqui today, Janet. The cover looks fantastic! I'm looking forward to the release. Congratulations, Jacqui!
Thanks for hosting, Jacqui. Congratulations, Jacqui!
Hi Jane and Jacqui - love the cover ... it blends in so well with 'the brand' you've built and are building ... Looking forward to reading it ... look after yourselves - Hilary
Thank you for being my guest! Love this cover.
You're welcome, Jill. Thank you for stopping in.
Hi Mark. Appreciate you stopping in.
Hi Hilary. I think Jacqui has found her niche in Prehistoric Fiction.!! Be safe and well.
Thanks so much for stopping by, Jill. I'm pretty excited about this cover.
Yay! Now if I could only get the editing done!
I love the hope that is the light and the danger that is the background. The designer did great.
The cover is very intriguing. Best of success!
Thank you, Joylene. Writing this book has kept me sane the last year!
Great cover, Jacqui! I'll be watching for that preorder.
Thanks for hosting, Janet:)
Thanks, Denise. I'm glad you like it. It's pretty perfect.
The cover is apt and enticing Jacqui. Wishing you all the best.
Thanks Janet, nice to meet you.
Hi Janet and Jacqui. I can't wait to see this book published and to read it. I loved the first two books in this series and have been waiting impatiently for the third. LOVE the cover, but I know the inside of the book is excellent too.
Wonderful podcast/trailer, Janet.
Jacqui, best cover yet.
Congrats on the amazing new cover, Jacqui! I can't wait to dive back into Lucy's world :)
Thanks, Balroop! This is the first time I've shown it so I'm thrilled to have the feedback.
I hope this is a worthy sequel to Lucy's first book, Born in a Treacherous Time. Her life is definitely treacherous in this part of her story.
I feel that way, too! I like how she hid Lucy but not as a silhouette.
Thanks, Jacquie. She's pretty tough. I've certainly enjoyed her company!
Hey, Joylene. I agree.
You're welcome, Denise. Thanks for popping in.
Hi Balroop, Good to meet you too. Thank you.
Hi Annelli, yes anxious to read the inside. Jacqui is a great storyteller.
Hi Sandra, I'm glad you mentioned that trailer. To view it, click on Jacqui's amazon author page. I got chills watching it. Music and images are amazing.
Hello, Jacquie. Thank you for stopping in.
How fun to find Jacqui here, Janet! Thank you for featuring this amazing author. I really like your new cover, Jacqui, and I'm looking forward to your next published book. I'm also eagerly anticipating your trilogy about when the super-volcano Toba erupted. So much of evolution in the world is based on contingency. If that tiny group of survivors hadn't made it, we and all that has come from us wouldn't be here. Good luck to both of you with your writing!
Thank you! I am pretty excited about this book but also, cerebrally excited about the next one, with Toba. I can't wait to dig into that!
Valentine's Day is a big one for florist! Jacqui writes about those who must change to survive. I think that remains true today.

You are so right, and I think that ability to change is uniquely human. Yes, animals to evolve but they are usually controlled by instinct, not decision-making. Thanks for visiting, Jeff!
I love the cover, Jacqui. Looking forward to the book release. Thank you for hosting, Janet!
Great cover, Jacqui! I love how well it ties in with the last one.
How lovely to find Jacqui featured here with this fascinating series of books. I have a question for Jacqui that popped into my head: When you write a series in the same setting and featuring the same people, how do you keep the descriptions fresh in each book. In other words, how much attention do you give to describing the people and places in the subsequent books to keep the books stand alone and yet part of a series?
That's great news--that you like the license. I loved the hope and light that the artist displayed, despite the challenges of those times.
So glad to hear that. I hope it shows that Lucy has grown into her life. Thanks for visiting, Betsy.
I wanted to stop by your blog, Betsy, but the link doesn't show up with your gravatar. Do you mind posting it?
What a great question. I struggled with that at first and then analyzed how other authors did that in series. Sometimes, they did a quick summary of important facts. Sometimes, they provided tantalizing hooks--maybe to get readers to read the earlier books. Other times, when something wasn't terribly relevant to the story, they skipped it. I did a hybrid of all three.
Wonderful progress, Jacqui and I love your cover! Well done, and can't wait to read more of Lucy's adventures!
Thank you so much, Terri! I've finally mostly finished my broken website so get to return to writing. That feels good!
I love the cover of your new book! Your designer did a fantasic job.
Thank you so much, Liz. I only needed to make minor changes from her original submittal.
Hi Fundy Blue, It's fun to spotlight my friends on my blog. You're welcome anytime.
You make a good point about changing to survive. I go by that old adage "Necessity is the mother of invention." Thank goodness humans have brains to invent what we need to survive and thrive.
Thanks for stopping in, Betsy.
Thanks for asking that question, Robbie. I am not a series writer for exactly that reason. I'm sure I would mess up a description from a previous book and the readers would get upset with me. I'm a scaredy cat to attempt that challenge.
Hey, Terri, thanks for coming by.
Yes, great design.
Thank you, both, for your responses. The idea of writing a serial was presented to me again today. I just don't know if I want to do it. I like writing stand alone books. Serials seem like more effort somehow, but in a way I don't really enjoy. You do it well, Jacqui, as I have never felt anything in your books is repetitive.
Serials do seem to be a daunting task. But, go ahead and try. You may love making up those stories using the same characters. You could really develop the situations and the characters.
I think it's whatever suits you. That's interesting that you think standalones are less effort! I have to think about that.
