COVID 19 Brings Out Our Humanity
Heart Image by OpenClipart-Vectors from Pixabay |
I have faith we will get through these hard times. Remember that the “worst thing is never the last thing.” Surely, we will glean something good from this harrowing experience. Here are a few examples of people helping people now.
- Stories of people helping people are already in the news--neighbors bonding together every night to dance in the street while keeping their social distance,
- schools and organizations preparing and delivering food to those in need
- teachers keeping in touch with their students in many creative ways,
- our heroes in the medical field and first responders fighting to save lives,
- wonders of wonders our Congress working together,
- and publishers, authors and distributors giving away or discounting books and digital products to help readers pass the time while staying home.
In these dark days, our humanity shines to reinforce our faith in each other.

When you're stuck in your house, every monotonous day melts into another day with no plans to see your friends and family or even go out for dinner. I decided to help folks escape from the bad news and sadness. I collected five of my quirky short stories written for the quarterly Storytime blog hop spearheaded by Juneta Key. I enjoyed re-visiting and revising the stories and saving them into a PDF of about 5000 words.
I plan to give away the PDF's using mailerlite, but I didn't figure out how to do it, yet, in time for the blog hop. I will have it done in time for the Rose Courier delivery late next week though! I also plan to put the link on the blog. You're invited to come back and download it.
***Do you put the link in Onedrive or Dropbox or Google for readers to download it? If you have some ideas, I'd appreciate them.

A Google Drive link will work, for a PDF. If you have a BookFunnel account, that's the best option. Then people can download the book directly into their reader. It does cost $15 a year (something like that).
Great idea, BTW!
I love hearing about people stepping up and being kind and generous during these times. Your plan for helping with stories is great.
I, too, hope we will come out better and more connected and appreciative after all this. That we'll have learned a few things.
Wishing you good health. Stay safe.
Thanks,Jacqui. I'll check out how to do that on the Google Drive.
Thank you. I hope the stories will get a smile or a gasp from readers!!
The COVID-19 will be in the history books. I'd love to read how the historians explain it to the future generations. You stay safe and healthy too. Thanks.
I might just make the file a pdf that gets downloaded from my own website. UNLESS I were using it as a "reward" for signing up for a mailing list, in which case you might have to go through whoever your list manager is. It's a great idea to put something out while everybody's inside and reading. Let me know how it goes.
No doubt your stories will help. :-)

If the people in my town started dancing in the street, I'd think they were possessed. I live in a very remote location in a town of 154 people, most of whom are retirees. We-uns tend to keep to ourselves.
May you stay well.

I love hearing about people stepping up and being kind and generous during these times. Your plan for helping with stories is great. Thanks for the share this blog. We are providing Background Removal Service with more than 15 years of experience.
Thanks for recognizing those who are helping others. Even though our adult kids live nearby, our neighbor has reached out via Messenger to see if we're okay and if we need anything. How very thoughtful. I see people, esp. teachers, sharing links on Facebook to sites that offer free activities for kids; our neighbors organized a "bear hunt" where we put teddy bears in our windows for kids to see as they go for walks. I've read that many neighborhoods are doing something like that. We're in this together. We will get through it. Stay safe.
Now that's a smart way to give away a book to people. Plus it gives readers a sample of your style.
I see a lot of places preparing meals and people making masks to donate.
It's good of you to recognise people who are helping others, JQ. It's great to see how communities have pulled together. I hope we can all get through this and out the other side. The world will be a different place when we do. Stay safe xx
Good for you for the give away, cuz. Sorry not familiar with OneDrive, Dropbox or Google for readers.
You are so right. There're so many heroes out there, doing the right thing under stressful, dangerous conditions.
YOU stay safe.
Okay--the website download is a good idea. Thank you. I see you have lots of stories on your website. Fun to read there too.
Thanks, Anna.
Ha--you should get out the music and see what happens!! Be wild and crazy--but at least six feet away from each other! Thanks for stopping by.
Thank you and I will allow your shameless promotion.
So many stories of thoughtful people. Thanks for sharing. Love the teddy bear hunt!
Thanks, Diane.
Thanks, Helena. I have no doubt we will get through this, but it's going to take a lot of time and money and sacrifice. I think one thing that may come out of this is more people will work from home, and from that less commuters on the road so less traffic, however the expensive gorgeous office buildings may be abandoned in favor of folks working at home. Now that sounds like a plot for a great book.!!!
Thank you, cuz. You stay safe too.!!!
How very uplifting! I will remember that quote the worst is never the last, especially when you're an eternal thinker.
I have no idea how to use those things. Sorry. What if you made it into a free nevella?
Very cool about your stories. Belated IWSG!
