You may be familiar with this word if you play Dungeons and Dragons. In that game “the troglodyte is a fictional race of primitive reptilian humanoids in the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game.” Wikipedia definition.

While you may find it surprising that I don’t play D &D, (I’ll pause to wait while you laugh at that statement) I actually found the word in Matthew Peters novel, Killing John the Baptist. In his suspenseful thriller it appeared in dialogue during a light-hearted moment in the story between Jessica and Branson discussing how well they knew each other. She said, “I now know you’ve seen The Sound of Music. You’re not a complete troglodyte.”
I immediately highlighted the word in my Kindle to look up the definition. Are you familiar with the word?

Most people know it in that second context as a derogatory word. But I do know it from D&D, too.
It's one of those words that I've known the definition many times in the course of my life but always forget it...luckily you can usually tell by the context! Perhaps this is the time it will stick. Nice post ! Melanie's Stories

Ooo, I like it. Can hear a character who can't find the word to really say what they want to say, say something like this instead, "You, troglodyte you!" Love it. I had heard the word but would never have thought of it.
Hey, JQ. Nice post. Great word. I think I kind of got the meaning of the word in Matthew's book. I could tell it was a purjoritive if you were one. LOL Sharing.
I love the word troglodyte and it's one of my favourites :) I first read it as a child in a Tintin book. (Do you have Tintin and Snowy in the US?) Tintin's friend Captain Haddock says it a lot :)

Helena, I'm not familiar with Tin Tin and Snowy. Sounds like Captain Haddock is quite the character! Glad you're enjoying the word selection. I'm having fun with it too.
