Spring fever interferes with my writing. So, after the Memorial Day holiday and school closing for the summer, I will be dealing with summer fever. I don't recall having fall or winter fever. The long days and warm weather lures me away from my laptop, but ideas for writing stories are always swirling in my head.

Canadians and Americans have celebrated long weekends what with Victoria Day on Monday, May 23, and Americans just coming back to reality after Memorial Day, May 30. Time to get glued back into your chair and write.

It means "indulgence in idle daydreaming." I'm sure I'll discover a golden nugget in the wool to spark an idea I can use for my future forays in storytelling.How about you? How do you deal with Summer Fever? Have you found ways to overcome it?

A swirling mind is always good, J.Q. Enjoy the good out doors and allow your mind to swirl all it wants :) Lovely picture of the sheep. So cute! Do you use the wool to make anything? Have a lovely rest of the week and thank you for the lovely post.
A few things pull me away during the summer. But if I'm focused, I can write just about anytime.
Woolgathering is okay every now and then. I enjoy daydreaming myself, but then I have to kick my butt back to reality and the things I need to do. :)
Usually the summer in South Africa is very hot, so I don't do much writing. But it doesn't stop the ideas from driving me crazy. There's nothing wrong with you wanting to enjoy the summer. Perhaps do a little writing at night when things have calmed down? I hope everything works out great for you.
I'm still trying to find a writing schedule that works for me and the kids. We love our summer time together!
Summer is about the same for me as the other seasons. I still try to write six days a week. I am more distracted though because I watch the hummingbirds at the feeders and the other birds in the trees, and I still enjoy a nice walk in the mornings.
Summer does not affect me the same way it did when I was younger. I like the sunshine and longer days, though. I like driving in my convertible with the top down, slap on the sunblock. Most things are done on the weekends just like the rest of the year, so just developing a routine is the same thing I already work at.

I love the phrase woolgathering, JQ! We had a day's holiday this week too, here in the UK, and my writing has suffered, but it's a great time to catch up with family and friends, and spend some time in the sunshine. (Unusually, the sun did shine on our Spring Bank Holiday!)
I hope the wool you gather is knitted up into a great new mystery. Can't wait to hear your ideas!
It's hot and humid here, so I hide inside a lot. Which gives me more time to write.
I love the transition time between spring and summer. Cool but not too cold; warm but not hot. Fortunately that's the weather prediction for the next week here in West Michigan. If it's too hot, I stay inside with the AC on then worry (sort of) about the electric bill. No pleasing me, I guess.

Beverly, it sounds like you have an inspirational place to spend the summer with the birds and the trees. I'm proud of you to stick to your 6 day writing week. That's why you have all those wonderful stories for kids.
Hey Juneta--right on about the convertible in the summer. WE have a Mustang convertible. Love riding around in it. Even if it is 20 years old. Teen age boys always have something to say about it wherever I am. They love it too. Thanks for cruisin' in to leave a comment
Helena--glad to hear you took some time off for family and friends on the holiday. Woolgathering is an appropriate word for you since you are near sheep, right? LOL..
Alex--so true that summers can be miserably hot and one only wants to stay in the AC. I forgot about that part! The weather has been so delightful here, but I'm sure heat and humidity will come eventually. Thanks for stopping in.

I've always heard you have to live to be able to write. So time away from the keys is a good thing, too. I'm excited to get my computer up and running soon, so I can finish the edits on the next book. Enjoy your "woolgathering." JQ. It's an important tool for us writers.
I keep the same writing schedule regardless of the season. When my husband retired, I went from writing parts of five days to two full days. The two full days each week are more productive than when I wrote every day. I mean business on those two days...lol. One thing that has changed with the summer is that I write more in our sunroom than in the living room.
