Dreams for 2013

Welcome 2013!

2013...seemed so far in the future. Heck I remember reading the book, 1984, and that seemed eons away. Then 2000 loomed ahead, but that was a date reserved only for adventures in fantasy with super rockets traveling from city to city instead of trains and planes. Lives of luxury and space age convenience were what I planned to enjoy in 2000. Instead we got a lot of hype about how the banks and governments would be demolished when the hands of the clock stood northward and the bells rang in 2000. Huh. Pretty anti-climactic, I'd say. Not much different from December 31, 1999 to January 1, 2000. Oh, except remembering to write/type 2000 instead of 1999.

Now what do I picture 2013 to be? I guess I am more practical. I have pretty much given up taking a super rocket from Michigan to Florida in my lifetime. I do count a microwave, HDTV, and the Internet though as some of my space age conveniences come true.

When I was a girl cleaning up the burnt on macaroni and cheese pan, I dreamed of having cookware that would not allow food to stick to it. That came true with Teflon.

I also dreamed of having a movie theater in my house because I love movies. And now with Netflix, that dream has come true too.

Maybe in 2013 we can work on peace on earth, stamping out hunger, knocking out diseases, and providing fresh water to all people. Now realizing those dreams could ring in a truly jubilant  new year!

Wishing you all the best in 2013!!

Janet, remember watching movies where people talked face to face over their hand-held phones and we all swooned at the thought? Haha, now it's no big deal. Which is a big deal to me. I'm so glad I was here to witness all these changes.

My dad was still here to see the first VCR movies at home, after being a young sailor in WW2.

The world is changing very fast. No amount of wishing things will stay the same is going to stop all these fascinating technologies. I think it's all rather kewl.

Happy New Year!

After our first month with Netflix I received a bill with a balance double its normal one. Haha. Never even thought to think that maybe Netflix would use up my air time. After that I had them send me a notice every Thursday so I never had any more surprises.

But you're right, Netflix is bad! We watched a movie every night during the holidays. Which reminds me... The American with George Clooney was a bit strange.

Oh Joylene, talking to each other through a screen..indeed! I think my future fantasies were based on watching the Jetsons..!!!

I haven't seen the American, but I do love George.

I didn't realize the VCR technology was even thought about after WWII. Things do change and I hope they will always change for the better. I agree. We need to be flexible and ready to enjoy it all.
